What this pattern means
Metal governs the Lung and Large Intestine. Its climate is Dryness, its emotion is sadness and grief, and its theme on the Nadiswara element card is "Let it go": the lungs release breath, the large intestine releases waste. The card links Metal to the respiratory system and to immunity, or Prana.
In this pattern two climates settle in the Lung at once. Dryness is the Lung's own climate taken too far: the report describes it as the "depletion of Blood and Yin fluids". Cold comes from the outside, through cold air, cold weather and cold food and drink, and it slows the Lung's work of moving breath and fluid. Together they make the Lung tight and dry rather than open and moist, which is why the pattern is written Dryness-Cold.
Signs traditionally associated with this pattern include cough, panting, breathlessness, numbness of the limbs and sinus heaviness. The numbness belongs here because the Lung is traditionally said to govern the distribution of Qi to the surface of the body and the limbs.
How it shows in a Nadiswara report
- Your main patterns. The app may show Lung as the Main focus with the chips "Metal element" and "Yin" and a level chip of Mild, Moderate or High, with Large Intestine as Secondary.
- Five elements. On a pulse session's "Five Elements" card, Dryness and Cold may stand out while Heat sits low. The pulse explanation may describe a "Deep and Slow" quality, which a sample report associated with "profound internal Cold", or a Choppy quality for Dryness, and may trace the Cold back through the cycle to Earth, since the Spleen and Stomach feed the Lung.
- Wellness at a glance and body balance. Immunity may sit under "Needs support", and the elimination and fluid-balance sliders may sit away from the middle.
- Food tab. The food guide may favour Warming foods, with cold and raw foods under "Avoid" and the "Drinks" card leaning to warm drinks.

Diet and lifestyle
The corrections for a Dry-Cold pattern are warming and moistening. From the sample reports and the app's own wellness tips, a practitioner may consider:
- "Including warming spices like ginger and pepper stimulates digestive fire", and warmth in the Earth element feeds the Lung.
- Prefer warm, cooked, moist food and "a glass of warm water in the morning"; avoid cold drinks, ice creams and frozen foods.
- Keep the chest and neck warm in cold weather and in air-conditioned rooms.
- Pranayama such as Anulom Vilom, and yoga such as Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) and Matsyasana (Fish Pose), appear among the report's lifestyle corrections.
- "A few slow, deep breaths can help settle a busy mind", and they give the Lung its gentlest exercise.
